New Delhi, Fri, 25 Nov 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Nov.25 (ANI): Home secretaries of India and Bangladesh have had a twelfth round talks this week in which they discussed several key issues of mutual benefit to the two nations.

R K Singh represented India while Monzur Hossain represented the Bangladesh delegation.

The talks were spread over three days during which discussed issues such as the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), the transfer of sentenced persons, the agreement on combating organized crime, illegal drug trafficking and the implementation the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP).

"We consider Bangladesh to be a close friend and for past 1.5 years, this cooperation has increased to a very high level. And we are happy to look forward to a better future and closer ties," said Home Secretary Singh.

Bangladesh reassured India of maintaining strict border vigil and not permitting any terrorist or insurgent activity on its soil.

Home Secretary Hossain said there were no terror groups operating out of Bangladesh.

"Anti India forces are not active in Bangladesh and we do not allow them to operate or do anything. Border Security force is there and we have a zero tolerance policy towards them," said Hossain.

During the meeting, the extradition of Anup Chetia was also discussed. Both sides are reportedly keen to resolve the issue, but the matter is being delayed because of legal proceedings in Bangladesh.

"We discussed the issue of Anup Chetia. The proceedings are going on smoothly in Bangladesh and we are happy with their efforts," Singh said.

Both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in capacity building of Police and other law enforcement agencies.

Bangladesh has welcomed the offer made by the India for training and capacity building of their police forces.
