New Delhi, Nov 24 (ANI): The Trinamool Congress (TMC has opposed 51 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and 100 percent in single-brand retail.
TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee discussed the matter with her party lawmakers and directed Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi to oppose the proposal in the Cabinet meeting today.
"As far as FDI is concerned, there should be comprehensive discussion and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is against it (FDI). Mamata (Banerjee) has said clearly that 'we will have to examine support price to farmers because many farmers are committing suicide in India'," Trivedi told reporters here.
The TMC has called for a wide range of consolations with farmers, small retailers, government's allies and opposition on the issue.
"I think farmers should be consulted, we should take the opinion of small retailers, the government should consult allies. There is no problem in democracy if all-party meeting is held and opposition is consulted so there is no logjam," Trivedi said. (ANI)
