BJP lawmakers to sign declaration on black money

New Delhi, Wed, 23 Nov 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Nov. 23 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distributed forms to its lawmakers at a Parliamentary Party meeting, asking them to declare that they do not have black money stashed abroad.

The move came after the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting discussed the strategies to take the ruling Congress Party to task during the Winter Session of Parliament.

BJP leader Gopinath Munde said the declarations would be submitted in the next two to three days.

"It has been decided that Bharatiya Janata Party lawmakers of both the houses of the Parliament will sign the declaration that they do not hold any account in foreign banks and neither have they stashed black money abroad in any of the foreign banks. This declaration will be submitted in two to three days," said Munde.

"Most of the lawmakers will submit it today and the others who are out of town will submit tomorrow or day after tomorrow," he added.

Munde further informed that the BJP had also decided to introduce an adjournment motion in Parliament on the issue of black money, and hoped that it would be accepted.

"Yesterday, Left-wing parties had moved the adjournment motion on price rise and the Bharatiya Janata Party has given the adjournment motion on the issue of black money stashed away in foreign banks by the Indian citizens, for which Advaniji (senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani) carried forward the mass-awareness rally. We hope that both the adjournment motions will be accepted and these issues will be discussed in Parliament," he added.

The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has been facing protests from several civil society groups and opposition parties against its alleged apathy in ploughing back billions of dollars of ill-gotten wealth parked in foreign tax havens by many Indians.

As per reports, an estimated 500 billion dollars to 1.4 trillion dollars of unaccounted money has been deposited secretly in overseas banks by wealthy Indians and corporate bodies. (ANI)
