'It's almost time for Ponting to retire from international cricket,' says Healy

Sydney, Nov 20(ANI): Former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy believes that Ricky Ponting should retire from international cricket if he fails to fire in the second innings of the ongoing Johannesburg Test against South Africa.

In five first-class innings so far on the South Africa tour, Ponting has been out lbw in almost identical fashion on four occasions.

"That's what I hope happens, but watching him last night he's double guessing where he thinks the ball might go, he's double guessing where he wants the ball to go," the Daily Telegraph quoted Healy, as saying.

"There are faults that have never been in his technique before and I don't like his statistics from the past 12 months. No one who has played for as long as he has should be averaging in the teens."

"I think it's a pretty easy decision. He's been on the wane for some time now and without something special, it's time for Ricky to say, 'I'm finishing'," he added.

Since the Ashes last December, Ponting has averaged just 14.15 from 13 innings.

In that time, the 36-year-old hasn't scored a half century and has seven single-figure scores and three ducks to his name. (ANI)
