'Bank of America page' glitch highlights Google+ vetting process' flaw

London , Sat, 19 Nov 2011 ANI

London, Nov 19 (ANI): A tremendous amount of attention and huge fanfare that Google+ enjoyed earlier this year because of its 'improved' and 'more sensitive' privacy policies appears to be a blip, after a fake 'Bank of America page' went unnoticed by the site raising questions over the social networks' vetting process.

Search giant Google's social networking site is now fighting a losing battle against falling user in the wake of the recent embarrassing glitch, the Daily Mail reports.

Google's problems apparently worsened, after hackers made a fake Bank of America 'business' page, which remained online for an entire week.

The page appeared to be the online home page of the bank, advertising the company's supposed new slogan, "We took your bailout money and your mortgage rates are going up".

"We are committed to making as much money as possible from usury, coercion, bribery, insider trading, extortion, and debit card fees as possible," it added.

Furthermore, Bank of America's staff didn't even bother to check the site, which clearly speaks volumes about the impact the site has had so far.

Google+, that recently allowed brands and companies to have dedicated pages network, just like rival Facebook, has hit 40million users since it launched in late June this year.

Responding to criticisms of its new services, Google CEO Larry Page said that Google is 'just getting started.'

Policing the internet is difficult, and Google unveiled a verification feature to help companies on the web.

Google+ is built on the idea that some posts are public and some private, so users have different 'circles' for friends, colleagues as well as 'public' posts that anyone can see.

But the recent glitch has raised questions over the sites' much hyped user verification policies. (ANI)
