New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today stressed upon the need of gender auditing along with gender budgeting of policies and programmes of various ministries and departments under the Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion of concluding programme of 'Vatsalya Mela 2011', Mukherjee said that 56 Government departments today have separate cells for gender budgeting in addition to 28 Ministries in the Central Government.
Mukherjee also expressed concern over the declining figure of child sex ratio coming down to 914 from 927 as per the census 2011.
He said that on one hand the women of the nation are marching ahead in different fields which is a matter of greater satisfaction while on the other hand declining number of girl child births is a matter of grave concern for all.
Mukherjee further mentioned that the women have shown the leadership potential in various fields, he cited the example of Agni-3 ballistic missile with the capacity strike range of 3,500 Kms. which has Project Director a lady.
Mukherjee also assured the Ministry of Women and Child Development that there will be no dearth of financial assistance as far as the schemes and projects of women and child welfare are concerned.
The Vatsalya Mela, a six-day event at Dilli Haat was full of infotainment relating to social evils in the country. (ANI)
