Kolkata, Nov.14 (ANI): Cricket fans at Kolkata were left disappointed as batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar missed another opportunity to score his 100th international century during India's first innings in the second Test against the West Indies being played here.
Tendulkar scored 38 with five boundaries before he was caught by Marlon Samuels off a pull shot of the bowling of leg spinner Devendra Bishoo. At the time of the filing of this report, India were 212 for the loss of three wickets in 57 overs of play. At the crease were Rahul Dravid on 62 (7 fours) and V.V.S.Laxman on 1.
Earlier in the day, fans said that they were looking forward to seeing Tendulkar reaching the major landmark of scoring his hundredth international ton.
India, ranked third on the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test charts, won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat Eden Garden wicket.
Openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir got the team off to a flying start before West Indies skipper Darren Sammy dismissed the former for a swashbuckling 38 runs.
Gambhir and Rahul Dravid continued the flow of runs and the Delhi southpaw completed his 50 before both teams went in for lunch.
"I expect, the way India played in the last match was fantastic, but I expect a big win this time. And this is the first time I am seeing any live match, so I am expecting a blast from the home team.
"We are waiting for it for a long time, maybe this time we can see it live," said Ashram Irani, a cricket fan.
After beating the touring Windies in the opening Test in New Delhi, the Indian team leads the three match series 1-0. (ANI)
