New Delhi, Nov 9(ANI): Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar scored a solid 76 to help the team register a comfortable five-wicket victory over the West Indies in the first Test at New Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
India chased down the 276-run target just after the lunch session on the fourth day to take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.
Resuming the day on 152-2, and requiring another 124 runs, India received an early jolt when fast bowler Fidel Edwards bowled Rahul Dravid (31) in the second over of the day.
However, Tendulkar steadied the innings with a 71 run fourth wicket partnership with V.V.S. Laxman (58 not out).
Tendulkar hit 10 boundaries during his 148-ball innings.
Off-spinner R. Ashwin was named the Man of the Match for his nine wickets on Test debut.
The second Test will be held in Kolkata from November 14. (ANI)
