Advani an 'evergreen Prime Ministerial personality', says Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Tue, 08 Nov 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 8 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh lauded party veteran Lal Krishna Advani for his long and eventful political life on Tuesday, and said the latter is not a contender, rather an 'evergreen prime ministerial personality' of the party.

"I would not call him a contender for the post of the Prime Minister, in fact he is an obvious choice. And when we read newspaper reports (touting him a contender for the Prime Minister's post) regarding a person of such an exceptional personality, then it definitely hurts," Singh told the media here.

"If you will flip through the pages of his political career, you must have seen that many innovative initiatives in Indian politics if any political leader has undertaken, then it is honourable Advaniji. If any political leader has kick-started the concept of 'Rath Yatra' in Indian politics so as to connect with the masses, Advaniji has done that," Singh added.

Another BJP leader Arun Jaitley dubbed Advani as a role model for young political leaders of the country.

"I have observed in context to him (L K Advani) and his political career that to take up an issue and to take it forward and to reach at a political consensus on the issue, not only in the party but in entire country and the society at large, the capability that he has, may be the political leaders from the contemporary generation lack it," Jaitley added.

Advani took a break from his nationwide 'Jan Chetna Yatra' to celebrate his birthday with his near and dear ones in New Delhi.

The BJP veteran, who turned 84 today, will now resume his anti-corruption yatra from Rajasthan on Wednesday. Advani will land in Jodhpur by a special plane on Wednesday to board his 'Jan Chetna Rath'.

Advani kicked off his nationwide tour from Sitab Diara village in Bihar on October 11, to take on the UPA Government on the corruption issue and press for return of black money stashed away abroad.

The 38-day long yatra will conclude in Delhi on November 20 in the form of a massive rally. (ANI)
