Bangalore, Nov 8 (ANI): The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted bail to state's former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who was arrested over two cases of corruption for illegally denotifying land in and around Bangalore.
On November 4, Justice BV Pinto of the Karnataka High Court had granted him bail in one case and adjourned the hearing on his bail plea in the second case till today.
Yeddyurappa had earlier surrendered before the Lokayukta Court on October 15 after it rejected his bail application.
Former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde's independent inquiry into mining graft in Karnataka had accused Yeddyurappa and other key officials for causing a loss of at least 160 billion rupees to the state exchequer between 2006 and 2010 from illegal mining and a series of abuses.
It is also alleged that he used his position to favour his sons in the allotment of land in Bangalore.
One acre of land at Rachenahalli was purchased by his family for Rs.40 lakh and was re-sold to a mining company for Rs.20 crore, resulting a significant profit.
Yeddyurappa tendered his resignation on July 31 to Karnataka Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj, following allegations of corruption. The resignation was accepted, and D. V. Sadananda Gowda appointed the Chief Minister. (ANI)
