Islamabad, Nov 6 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has denied claims that Pakistan is not committed to finalizing the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status for India, saying "there is no question of backtracking" on this issue.
An unnamed Indian government official had claimed on Friday that Islamabad was "backtracking" on the issue after facing opposition in the country.
However, Khar negated all such reports, saying: "There is absolutely no question of backtracking of cabinet approval of trade normalisation with India. I want to completely dismiss any indication that there's any retraction on what we said."
She said Pakistan's foreign policy aims to establish good relations with its neighbours, and added the upcoming trade talks with New Delhi are an indication that the troubled foreign relations had improved in recent months, the Daily Times reports.
Khar also said the two countries' commerce secretaries would meet in mid-November to strike a trade agreement.
"The cabinet very clearly gave them a way forward, which is trade normalisation with India," she said.
Khar said that they are also trying to mend the soured relationship with the United States, and Afghanistan.
"Nothing would make us happier than a strong government in Afghanistan," she said, adding: "I look at the last few weeks, and relations with the US have been generally positive. It's basically the operational details to agree on." (ANI)
