Opposition holds protests against fuel price hike

Bhubaneshwar/Vadodhra/Amritsar, Nov 5 (ANI): The overnight hike in fuel prices by rupees 1.82 has resulted in opposition parties protesting strongly against the decision.ctivists and supporters of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party took to the streets in Bhubaneswar in protest against the latest fuel price hike.

 

Terming the fuel price hike as an anti-people decision, BJD members warned the central government that the people of the state would teach a lesson to Ithe ruling Congress party for enforcing such anti-people decisions.

 

"We are opposing the anti-people activity of Congress government and people of Orissa, naturally, they will give a lesson to the Congress government for this anti-people activity, said a BJD supporter in Bhubaneshwar.

 

In Vadodara, Gujarat, activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out a bullock cart with a motorbike placed on top to highlight the misery of the common man.

 

"The whole system of life that drives a man has now been altered. The level of inflation and corruption in this country by the Congress has made it difficult for the common man to survive. With the rise in petrol prices, people in the middle class, students, poor or even children, everyone is being directly affected by petrol. This rise in petrol prices should be immediately rolled back by the Congress," said BJP supporter Manubhai.

 

Former Indian cricketer and BJP MP, Navjot Singh Sidhu, led a protest in Amritsar and burnt an effigy of the ruling Congress party, Sidhu said the central government was both deaf and mute.

 

He lambasted the Congress party and termed the price rise as a slap on the common man's face.

 

With effect from Friday, the price of one litre petrol in Delhi will be rupees 68.66, in Chennai rupees 71.16, in Kolkata rupees 71.98 and Mumbai rupees 73.71.he fuel price index climbed an annual 14.50 percent in the week to October 22 compared with an annual rise of 14.70 percent last week.

 

The central government granted autonomy to state-run firms last year to fix retail prices for petrol, but still continues to control the prices of diesel, cooking gas and kerosene. (ANI)
