New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Friday said that hike in fuel prices were the result of change in crude oil prices in the international market.
Talking to reporters here, Abdullah said: "The rise in petrol prices depends on the international market. Diesel prices have still been kept low, because most haulage in India happens using diesel.
Abdullah, however, said that the central government needs to be much more careful, before it takes any decision to hike the price of diesel.
Responding to reports of the displeasure of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the hike in prices of petrol, Abdullah said the matter needs to be discussed so that the situation could be brought under control.
"We are not angry. We believe that we have to collectively bring this situation under control. If it goes out of control, what answer will we give to the people?", he said.
On Thursday, the state owned oil companies announced an increase in petrol prices by Rs. 1.82 per litre. (ANI)
