Islamabad, Nov 4 (ANI): Former West Indian cricketer Michael Holding has termed the ongoing spot fixing scandal as very "unfortunate".
"It's very unfortunate for the game that these things are happening. One would hope this will be a big deterrent to those that think they can get away with cheating in the game," The Mirror quoted him, as saying.
"This is now proof to them that there are people involved in their team in Pakistan that are doing the wrong thing, and that they will come down very hard on any player that is suspected - and make them prove they are not doing anything wrong," he added.
Former English cricketer Alec Stewart also said similar things.
"Quite simply if you are found guilty of any wrongdoing then you have to be punished accordingly and it looks like these three will have to face up to custodial sentences," he added.
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, were jailed by London's Southwark Crown Court yesterday for their involvement in a spot-fixing scam during the 2010 Lord's Test against England.
Butt has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, Asif for a year, while Amir will be jailed for six months. (ANI)
