Millions of 7-12 year old Brit kids are Facebook addicts

London, Thu, 03 Nov 2011 ANI

London, Nov 3 (ANI): Millions of kids in Britain aged between 7 to12 years are Facebook addicts, a new survey has revealed.

970,000 of them log in to the site at least once a day, with an additional 46 per cent of children using the site occasionally. Just one in 20 say they never log on, the Sun reported.

The survey by analysts Mintel shows everyday usage of Facebook is most common among girls aged ten to 12, with 54 per cent of them logging on.

The next most popular social networks are Twitter and Club Penguin, but the frequency of visits is much lower, with less than ten per cent of kids using them.

Experts regard peer pressure as the key motivation for using a particular social network as nearly two-thirds of 7 to 12-year-olds use a social network because pals do.

"Today's children are well versed in all aspects of the internet, with almost a million children aged seven to 12 using Facebook - highlighting just how popular the site has become," Ina Mitskavets, author of the Children's Lifestyles report from Mintel, said. (ANI)
