Lalgarh, Oct 29 (ANI): Police in West Bengal's West Midnapore District have successfully prevented a potential Maoist attack by retrieving a landmine and two detonators from Lalgarh Village.
The deadly devices were recovered in a joint operation involving West Bengal Police and the Central Reserve Police Focce (CRPF).
West Midnapore's Additional Superintendent of Police, Kalyan Mukherjee said the landmine was targeted at security forces or a lawmaker of the area.
"We had identified that something was buried there, assembled with wires. The bomb squad came to the spot and seized an iron container, which had three wires and it looked like a detonator wire. The bomb disposal squad has said that only after inspection can they tell how powerful it is," said Mukherjee.
"We also found 150 metres of wire. Three detonator wires were also found and the bomb squad is investigating if the container had any detonator inside it," he added.
Investigations are still on, Mukherjee said.
Over the last few months, police have been quite successful in arresting a number of Maoists.
Despite strong central government measures to crush the Maoist insurgency, it has gripped nearly a third of the country, spreading into the interiors of twenty of India's 28 states.
