New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Sixteen football teams, comprising of players from different northeast states took part in the fifth annual Tamchon Football Tournament here recently.
The Tanghkul Naga Society Delhi organized the event and its main objective was to promote peace, friendship, unity, and interaction through games and sports amongst people of the North East.
"Through this football tournament we are given an opportunity to intermingle and exchange ideas, communicate and share with each other. We are interested to building up the youth," said Ameising Luikham, President, Tanghkul Naga Society Delhi.
The opening ceremony began with folk and cultural performances of several troupes of the region.
While the Mizos showcased their world-renowned bamboo dance, Manipur's Zeliangrong tribe enthralled the audience with their traditional war dance.
"We feel very proud to perform in such an event and it is a great opportunity to show our rich culture. We have gained confidence so we are expecting more events to be held so that we can perform again," said Mathieuchunbou, a participant.
The main attraction was the match between the Arunachallis and Mizos.reat skills complimented the intense rivalry between the teams.
"This is a great event for us especially for northeastern people. It's a great opportunity for the young players from home so; it's a good exposure for them," said Victor, coach of Mizoram team.
