New York, Oct 27 (ANI): Brooklyn-based performance artist Marni Kotak gave birth to her first child in front of a public audience at the Microscope Gallery in Bushwick.
Marni Kotak welcomed her son, a beautiful baby boy named Ajax weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces, inside the Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn, New York
Kotak, 36, spent each day of the last month of her pregnancy inside an art installation set up like a birthing room at the Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn as part of the "project," which she dubbed "The Birth of Baby X."
She said she wanted to show that giving birth was the "highest form of art."
At 10:17 Tuesday she treated a crowed of about 20 gallery visitors to her new creation.
"The atmosphere inside the gallery was magical," the New York Post quoted blogger Katarina Hybenova as writing on the bushwickdaily.com website.
"I believe that all of the participants were deeply moved by this emotional, raw and true 'piece of art'. . . Everyone was also very helpful."
Kotak's husband, Jason Bell, however, says that they have been troubled by some of the negative reactions on her birth performance.
"There's a history of people who do stuff like this in art galleries," he said.
"This guy shot a dog, this guy got shot by somebody in an art gallery. But this wasn't someone getting hurt this was a positive thing."
Kotak has already announced her next performance art work: "Raising Baby X." (ANI)
