New Delhi, Oct 27 (ANI): Reacting to a poser on the possible withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from certain regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh on Thursday said the proposal is under the consideration of Home Ministry.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 64th Infantry Day event here, General Singh said they have given their inputs and the Home Affairs ministry is considering the matter.
"See, this is within the purview of the ministry of Home Affairs, they are debating this, we have given our inputs and I would not like to say anything more on that," he added.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah declared that the time has come to consider withdrawing the AFSPA from certain areas of the Kashmir Valley.
Abdullah said that since the security condition has improved in the Kashmir region, the government was in a position to consider removal of AFSPA.
"I am happy to announce that the time has come and the circumstances are permitting us to lift those laws, from certain areas, which were imposed during the time of rampant militancy in the state," he added.
Meanwhile, reacting to recent comments of General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference party, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, who reportedly blamed the army for the grenade attacks targeting security force installations apparently to affect the decision on removal of the AFSPA, General Singh said whosoever had made the comment, did not deserve any attention from him.
"See, whosoever has given that comment, I don't think he deserves the courtesy of any remarks from me," he added. (ANI)
