Watson fit enough to play Friday's final ODI: Physiotherapist

London , Wed, 26 Oct 2011 ANI

London, Oct 26 (ANI): Australian Vice-Captain Shane Watson's back spasms were a random occurrence unrelated to his recent hip injury, team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris has said.

Watson was forced from the field while bowling in the second one-day international defeat by South Africa on Sunday and batted down the order.

Although a hip problem kept Watson out of the previous two matches of the South Africa series, Kountouris is confident that the Australian all-rounder would be fit for Friday's final ODI in Durban and the Test campaign.

"He's in a good place at the moment, he's been playing loads and loads of cricket. He didn't have that two-week break that the rest of the team had [between the Sri Lanka and South Africa tours] and he played Champions League," The Age quoted him, as saying.

"So in terms of amount of batting and bowling and everything else that he's got under his belt," Kountouris added.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Watson is "desperate" to contest Friday's one-day international series-decider in Durban, despite suffering back spasms in game two on Sunday. (ANI)
