Festive discounts lure tourists to Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 26 (ANI): Festive discounts offered by the state tourist industry are attracting tourists from all over the country to Kashmir valley to spend their festive vacations.

 

Tourism Director of the state, Farooq Shah said due to aggressive advertising campaign, they have been able to draw in many tourists to the Jammu and Kashmir.

 

"We have tried a lot through electronic and print media to lure tourists to Kashmir as it is the most affordable destination. Along with that, the houseboat and the hotel owners offer a lot of discounts to the tourists and also we promote Kashmir as a shoppers' paradise," said Shah.

 

"So we want that during this season, we bring more and more tourists to Kashmir, whether it is during the festival of 'Diwali' or 'Durga Puja'. So far we have got a good response and for the first time, we have got a good response from West Bengal," he added.

 

He also noted that there has been an increase in the tourists from eastern states particularly West Bengal which celebrates Durga Puja during this time of the year.

 

A tourist, Daisy Dev, said that it was a dream come true to visit picturesque Kashmir.

 

"Most of the Bengalis, they love enjoying, going out on vacations to different places. It was my desire to come to Kashmir and I really enjoyed it," said Dev.

 

As per official sources, 2011 has been the best year for Kashmir's tourism industry in the past 25 years.

 

According to an estimate till September 2011, at least 1.1 million tourists have visited Kashmir valley this year and the numbers are expected to rise with the onset of winter tourism in the state. (ANI)
