London, Oct 25 (ANI): Ace striker Javier Hernandez has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester United, keeping him out of Real Madrid's reach.
Real Madrid had earmarked him as their No1 transfer target, but the striker has signed a contract, which takes his wages from 25,000 pounds a week to 75,000 pounds.
Hernandez scored 20 goals in his first season following a six million pound move from Mexican side Chivas, The Sun reports.
Boss Alex Ferguson said: "The last player I remember making an impact as big and as quickly as Javier is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he reminds me of Ole a lot.
"His talent for creating space in the box and his finishing ability mark him out as a natural goal-scorer. Off the pitch, he is a pleasure to manage. He works very hard and is a popular member of the squad."
Ferguson intended to use Hernandez sparingly in his first year.
But his performances cemented his place in the team alongside Wayne Rooney in the second half of the campaign. (ANI)
