Jaipur, Oct 25 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hoisted the Indian flag on 209 foot long pole here. It is said to be the tallest in India.
The 48 feet wide and 72 feet long flag would flutter with special arrangements made to illuminate it at night.
UPA Minister and Member of Parliament Naveen Jindal said the flag is a symbol of unity for the people of India.
"If there's any big flag, then there will be several joints. Instead of looking at faults in everything, we must be happy with this development. This pole too has several joints and even our body has several joints. So, this flag is also constituted by various facets of people," said Jindal.
"This flag is a symbol of unity of the 120 crore people living in this country. The residents of Jaipur have received this flag as a present on Dhanteras. I congratulate them on their achievement," he added.
The unfurling of the flag came after the government allowed the tricolour to fly day and night on a 100-ft high pole with proper illumination in December 2009.
The government reached this decision after Jindal won a court battle to allow citizens to fly the Indian flag as a fundamental right.(ANI)
