Sydney, Oct 22 (ANI): India, Australia, South Africa and England have broken away from the pack, and hereafter the battle for the top positions will be fought between them and the tussle will have numerous twists and turns, according to noted cricket columnist Peter Roebuck.
"A few weeks ago, India could not win a match and England could not lose. Not so long ago, Australian were in the doldrums and the Proteas were a handful. In a trice the reverse applies," Roebuck said.
He wrote in The Sydney Morning Herald: "Fortunes will ebb and flow because great flingers are thin on the ground. As a result, a lot more depends on the other aspects of cricket teams, namely balance, fitness, stamina, leadership, selection, will power and planning. Victory will go to the boldest and best-organised outfit."
Roebuck said that the era of long periods of domination is over when the West Indies dictated terms for 15 years and latter the Australians did the same.
"Although equally brief, India's rally is also significant because it has been achieved without the services of veterans and established players. On paper, India have a stronger side off the field than on it.
"Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma count among the absentees. And still England have been trounced 3-0 in the one-day series," Roebuck wrote. (ANI)
