Kolkata, Oct 21(ANI): Several Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders are holding a 24-hour fast in Kolkata to protest against inflation and alleged scams by the Central government.
Secretary of Kolkata unit of CPI, Prabir Deb, said that they are observing the fast to protest against the Central government's involvement in the graft scams and rising prices of essential commodities.
He emphasized that the brunt of rising prices is primarily being borne by the poor.
"Our party, representing people from across India, is observing fast for 24 hours. We are fighting against the wrong policies of the Central government," said Deb.
"They have looted thousand and crores of rupees. The price of essential commodities has risen and common man is unable to survive due to this," he added.
Deb also demanded that the Lokpal Bill should be introduced in the winter session of the parliament.
"We are demanding that an effective Lokpal bill be passed in the coming winter session of the parliament. To get this in effect, we are on a 24 hour long hunger strike," he added. (ANI)
