New Delhi, Oct 20 (ANI): In preparation for the upcoming Deepavali a week long fair exhibiting candles and earthen lamps made by specially abled persons was organized by the Blind Relief Association.
Appealing designer earthen lamps and flower-patterned candles that are lit during this festival lured scores of customers and other visitors to the exhibition.
Executive Secretary of the Blind Relief Association, Kailash Chandra Pandey said that such fairs helped the specially abled persons in becoming self-reliant.
"The aim is that they should have skills, which they should enhance. And in due course, they give their contribute their mite to the society, so that they are able to lead an independent life, yes being self-reliant," said Pandey.
The proceeds of this exhibition will be used for imparting vocational skills and training to the specially abled persons.
Apart from the candles and earthen lamps, the visually impaired persons displayed their skills as masseurs at the fair.
Dinesh Kumar, a visually challenged masseur said that such special skills learnt by them have instilled confidence in them.
"We have to change this mentality that the handicapped (specially-abled) persons cannot do anything. We are trying to give this message to the society that we are confident that we can also stand up on our feet and do something," said Kumar.
The fair began on October 18 and will go on till October 24. (ANI)
