Hurt by criticism, Yeddyurappa prefers to get treatment at Bangalore Central Jail

Bangalore, Wed, 19 Oct 2011 ANI

Bangalore, Oct 19 (ANI): Stung by criticism over his health issues being a farce and an excuse for him to stay out of jail, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday refused to take further treatment at the Victoria Hospital here so as to return to the prison.

The Dean of Victoria Hospital, Dr. O. S. Chidappa, said Yeddyurappa was discharged after he insisted on taking the medical treatment at the jail.

"Today morning, when the doctors came for the rounds, he refused to take the treatment. He is insisting to go back to the jail and take the treatment there itself. We decided to discharge him," said Dr. Chidappa.

Dr. Chidappa further said that Yeddyurappa was being given the treatment as per the guidelines of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology.

Dr. Chidappa informed that Yeddyurappa was admitted to the hospital as he was suffering from medical problems like diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism, backache and Parkinson, besides high sodium levels in the blood and depression.

He added that Yeddyurappa has been discharged after being handed a proper prescription from the hospital authorities.

Yeddyurappa was arrested after a special Lokayukta Court rejected his anticipatory bail on October 15 and issued an arrest warrant against him.

Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde's independent inquiry into mining graft in Karnataka, accused Yeddyurappa and other key officials for causing a loss of at least 160 billion rupees to the state exchequer between 2006 and 2010 from illegal mining and a series of abuses.

Yeddyurappa tendered his resignation on July 31 to Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj, following allegations of corruption that was later accepted. (ANI)
