Greater Noida, Tue, 18 Oct 2011 ANI

Greater Noida (UP), Oct 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought explanation from the Uttar Pradesh government for granting tax exemption to the company organising Formula 1 event in Greater Noida.

A bench headed by Justice D K Jain also issued notice to Jaypee Group, organiser of the sporting event, and asked them to file their response by Friday on why the event was given exemption from entertainment tax.

The apex court passed the order on a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the state government' decision to grant tax exemption for organising the F1 event.

Earlier in the day, the Buddh International circuit, that will host Formula One race in Greater Noida on October 30, was officially unveiled on Tuesday.

Spread over 875 acres, the length of the track is 5.14 kilometers. The fastest lap time on the track is expected to be under 1 minute 27 seconds with average speeds crossing 210 kmph. (ANI)
