Kiran Bedi claims Hisar by-polls verdict shows voters support Jan Lokpal Bill

Chandigarh , Mon, 17 Oct 2011 ANI

Chandigarh, Oct 17 (ANI): Former senior police officer and civil society activist Kiran Bedi on Monday said the trend of the by-polls in Haryana reveals that the electorates support and want a strong and effective Jan Lokpal Bill that would help to combat corruption.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Bedi said it was the voters' decision; they wanted commitment for a strong anti-graft bill.

"It is the voter which has worked, it is the voters' decision. The voter wanted the Jan Lokpal Bill, voter wanted a commitment and that's what. It is the voter's choice," said Bedi.

Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi won the Hisar by-poll on Monday defeating his nearest rival Ajay Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal by more than 6323 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backed Bishnoi for this seat. Meanwhile, his party workers have gone into a celebration mood with the verdict.

Congress Party came third in the polls. There were in all 40 candidates, mostly independents, in the fray.

This seat was considered significant, as Team Anna had aggressively campaigned against the Congress Party here.

Downplaying the reports of any kind of rift between Team Anna, Bedi said there are no differences between the team members and they are serving the society together.

"The differences between our team members are all your imagination. There are no differences between us. Differences crop up when there is fight for a superior position, but here we are on a mission, it is a service to the society. There is no divide in serving the society, divide is always for achieving a superior position," Bedi added. (ANI)
