Srinagar, Oct 17 (ANI): Independent MLA, Engineer Rashid has called for the relaxation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing anguish, Rashid said with the imposition of the draconian act, government cannot disregard the lives of the people residing in the region.
Condemning all sorts of terrorism in the Valley, Rashid said: "We condemn all sorts of terrorism. We do not support militancy whether it is from anywhere whether it is a state sponsored terrorism or sponsored by someone else.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier indicated that the AFSPA might be lifted from certain parts of the Kashmir Valley.
"It should not be assumed that we will instantly lift this (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) overnight from the state. That was never our intention and it will never be our intention. But we do want it lifted in those places where situation has improved and there is no need for the Army in those places," Abdullah said.
"We now have to take a decision; I will discuss this matter with my colleagues and then take a decision," he added. (ANI)
