Kanpur, Oct 17 (ANI): Slamming key aides of veteran social activist Anna Hazare, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh has said that they are politically motivated and essentially anti-Congress in their approach.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, Singh said that he still respects Hazare but the actions of his aides have sadden him.
"I used to touch his feet earlier also and I will do so now as well but I am saddened by the fact that Anna is surrounded by people who are exploiting him socially like Arvind Kejriwal, Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan and all these people are fundamentally anti-Congress. They have unnecessarily used Anna for their campaign against Congress in Hissar, the reason I can't understand," he added.
He also made critical remarks at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the arrest of former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
"The awareness tour of senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani failed on that very day when BS Yeddyurappa was arrested," he added.
"Mr Advani, instead of going to other places, you must take your procession to Karnataka. Stories about the Reddy brothers' involvement (in illegal mining) have been in the public domain for over a year now. There is open corruption there, and this fact lies before the public. In order to help his sons, Mr Yeddyurappa changed land use in his state and helped them make millions of rupees," Singh added.
Singh further made scathing remarks on Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy over his repeated negative criticism of the Congress party and its leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Party Chief Sonia Gandhi.
"Subramanian Swamy is a hardcore supporter of RSS and nobody can beat him in spreading rumours and wrong words in the country. He only knows how to lie and probably has never learnt to say the truth in his life ever," he asserted.
Swamy had earlier heavily criticised Manmohan Singh for proposing restrictions in the Right to Information Act.
"There is still room for amendments in the RTI Act so that the existing estrictions should also be reduced. But the Prime Minister feels that the restrictions should be increased and if he tries to make any such attempt, we will challenge it in the Supreme Court.
"The amount of information accessible in countries like America and Britain under the RTI Act, India is nowhere close to that level. Information is denied with reasons like national security," Swamy added. (ANI)
