Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh), Oct 16 (ANI): Five Maoists were arrested on Sunday in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur District.
Acting on a tip-off, police officials and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel arrested the ultras from a heavily forested area near Narayanpur District.
At least 30 live cartridges and Maoist literature were also recovered from the arrested ultras.
They have been identified as Laskhman, Aaitu, Rasool, Somnath and Phool Singh.
The arrests of the ultras come as a major boost for the security forces deployed in the strife-ridden region, who have been braving all odds to secure local tribals from the increased Maoist offensive reported from across the state since the past few months.
P.P. Singh, in-charge of Narayanpur police station, said that at least two of the apprehended ultras had been under the scanner of the security forces since a long time.
"Police found these five Maoist ultras operating in suspicious circumstances in a forest and arrested them. Aaitu and Lakshman, carried awards worth Rs 20,000 each on their arrests. Both of them had been involved in many criminal cases. We have also recovered 30 live cartridges from them," said Singh. (ANI)
