BJP accuses Congress of inability to tackle corruption

Hoshangabad , Sun, 16 Oct 2011 ANI

Hoshangabad, Oct 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday accused the Congress-led Central government of failure to ensure enactment of a strong and effective Jan Lokpal Bill, that would help to combat corruption.

Addressing mediapersons here, Prasad said that the present ruling government does not wish to enact a strong and effective Jan Lokpal Bill.

"BJP believes that there is need for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill in which Prime Minister should also come under its ambit and the present government would create obstacles in creating it," Prasad added

Criticizing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Prasad said: " Manmohan Singh continued to have faith in those ministers who are deeply involved in corruption."

"We get fresh evidence against Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the telecom scam every day. But the Prime Minister has expresses his faith in his leaders. Moreover, there have been two reports- Shunglu committee and CAG report, stating several allegations against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's involvement in the Commonwealth Games (CWG), and Congress is trying to protect her," he said.

"The Congress party is deeply rooted in corruption, and it defends the corrupt officials and flouts all procedures," he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on former Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, who has been sent to jail due to graft charges, Prasad said: "We are not affected by his (Yeddyurappa) arrest. BJP had very clearly said that if any report confirms allegations levelled against him, then there would be a detailed investigation."

"As soon as the report was released, we did take action, this happened two months back. That is why we are very clear about our objectives," added Prasad. (ANI)
