Sydney, Oct 16 (ANI): Australian cricketer David Warner has warned the South African team ahead of the one-day international series, predicting he's yet to reach top gear.
"I feel like I'm hitting the ball really well, but if I wanted to be harsher on myself, I could probably hit them better," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Warner, as saying.
The opener's recent back-to-back centuries in the Champions League were two of the finest knocks ever executed in Twenty20 cricket.
His unbeaten 135 against Chennai and 123 not out against Bangalore showcased his full repertoire of futuristic shots and elevated him to third on the all-time runs list for non-international T20 matches.
Despite being widely recognised as one of the best players in the history of the game's shortest form, Warner revealed it has only been in the past couple of months that he has discovered the secret to T20 batting.
"You've still got to get yourself in, I've only just realised that the last couple of months," said the switch-hitting expert. Obviously in India it was tough and I had to grind my way through to the middle overs and be there at the end," he said.
"When I've got myself in I could actually see how much you can (score) in the last five overs, what you can actually put on ... that's the way I'm approaching my Twenty20 cricket now. It's just keeping it really simple and having a simple game plan and backing yourself," he added. (ANI)
