Bangalore, Oct 12 (ANI): Karnataka Lokayukta and civil society activist Justice Santosh Hegde has criticised the Central Government's plans to release edited tapes of panel discussions.
Talking to reporters here, Justice Hegde said: " It is unethical on part of the government for its plans to release edited tapes of discussions of the panel that reviewed for redrafting the Lokpal Bill.
Responding to a query over the fact that an RTI applicant had asked for the tape recordings and was going to be given an edited version, he said that he did not agree with the move.
He said that edited tapes could mean the government releasing only what it considered necessary.
"Edited version could be that what is inconvenient for them (government) could be deleted and only that portion which indicates their keenness on bringing the Bill can be recorded. Therefore I really don't know what is the meaning of this editing of it and all," he added.
Disagreeing with Team Anna and its move of taking on the Congress party in the Hisar by-polls, he said there was no need to pre-empt the government's move by encountering it in the political arena before the winter session of the Parliament.
Anna Hazare himself had suggested that the Lokpal Bill, currently being scrutinised by a parliamentary committee should be tabled and passed in the winter session of the parliament, Hegde said.
He further criticised Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh for needlessly coming up with an issue every other day and at odd hours, advising Anna Hazare.
"I don't know whether Digvijay Singh is on hourly basis employment because on every topic and every day repeatedly he goes against somebody or the other. Now, writing an open letter to Annaji saying that so and so members of your team are sort of misleading you and doing all these things and all. I think Team Anna doesn't require his advice or even Anna for that matter," he said. (ANI)
