Mendaki/ Jhansi, Oct 11 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi visited Mendaki village here on Monday night to have dinner with a Dalit family.
Gandhi is reportedly making efforts to feel the pulse of the youth in the economically backward regions of the country.
An extremely delighted Dalit family patriarch Kunjilal Kori said he did not know of Gandhi's plan to have dinner at his house.
"The King of India, Rahul Gandhiji, came to our place. I was not having any idea about his visit to my place. I was sitting out and came back home when a crowd of people gathered at my doorstep," said Kori.
"He only asked me whether the people of my village faced any problem. Are the people facing any major problems? He also asked me whether we easily get work or not and what my children do?" Kori added.
During his visit, Gandhi also addressed a meeting of the Youth Congress in Jhansi before embarking on an impromptu visit to villages in the Mauranipur area.
The Uttar Pradesh elections, which are scheduled in the early part of 2012, is being seen as a stepping-stone for the Congress Party to establish a firm political base in India's fifth largest and most populous state before the 2014 general elections.
Rahul Gandhi is leaving no stone unturned in giving a tough fight to the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the forthcoming state assembly elections. His visits have focused equally on Dalits, Muslims, the other backward classes and Hindus. (ANI)
