New York, Oct 11 (ANI): Hacker group Anonymous' threat to hack into the computer system of the New York Stock Exchange proved empty as the biggest US stock trading website functioned without any interruption.
The members of the hacker group earlier declared war on the New York Stock Exchange by threatening to "erase" it from the Internet.
According to the Herald Sun, NYSE.com appeared to slow down and perhaps go offline briefly for sometime, but there was no interruption to trading on the stock exchange and the public website immediately returned to normal.
The exchange's online security boss E.J. Hilbert told Bloomberg that the attempt was 'like four nine-pound weaklings running into a Sumo wrestler.'
"If you don't have enough people behind an event like this, it's just a spike in traffic as far as NYSE is concerned," he added.
NYSE spokesman Rich Adamonis said also said that 'the company didn't detected any service outage on the corporate website.'
According to previous reports, the hackers said that they had planned to launch a DDoS (or distributed denial of service) attack on the NYSE's computer systems.
"On October 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet, expect a day that will never, ever, be forgotten," said a video, which was addressed to the media. (ANI)
