Advani arrives in Bihar's Sitab Diara village to begin Jan Chetna Yatra

Patna, Oct 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani on Tuesday arrived in Bihar's Sitab Diara village, from where he will kickstart his 38-day long Jan Chetna Yatra.

"Even today, we hope that India should be counted as one of the most successful nations in this world. In fact, about 20 to 25 years ago, we would feel that we are a backward nation but there has been development, because of which the entire world believes that there is scope for growth in India, Advani told the media here.

Earlier, Advani said he would highlight corruption, price rise and black money stashed away in foreign banks during his month-long campaign.

"The main emphasis of my yatra would be on how to bring back the black money stashed away in foreign banks and how to use it for the development of the country," he added.

Advani further said democracy has been damaged under the UPA rule and the cash-for-vote scam was a turning point for the country's democratic principles and the credibility of the UPA.

"The cash-for-vote scam has been a turning point in the roots of the Indian democracy. Usually, when a person bribes somebody, it is done secretly but instead of doing it secretly, the UPA government has flaunted how they were going to win votes for their party and for their government and ensure that this government, which had committed itself to the nuclear treaty, was not going to lose," said Advani.

Advani has apparently chosen Sitab Diara, the birthplace of India's freedom fighter Jai Prakash Narayan, as the starting point of his yatra because of Jai Prakash"s fight against corruption during his Total Revolution Movement in the mid-1970s.

The much-hyped journey is going to encompass 23 states, four Union Territories, which will include 100 districts and 7600 kilometres.

The yatra will see Advani boarding 14 special aircraft and six helicopters. He has to visit a total of 46 places across the country. The 38-day long yatra will conclude in Delhi on November 20 in the form of a massive rally.

However, many political parties have claimed that Advani's procession was motivated by the upcoming general elections to be held in 2014.

Advani had organised a similar yatra in the 1990's, to mobilise the people towards building a temple dedicated to Lord Rama deity in Ayodhya.

In 2004, he had taken out another chariot procession to reiterate the demand to build the Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya. (ANI)
