New Delhi, Oct 9 (ANI): Targeting the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday said that he would speak at length about the black money stashed away in foreign banks during his nationwide 'Jan Chetna Yatra'.
Advani said that he would focus on corruption, the price rise and poverty in his speeches during his month-long journey.
"During this journey, I will speak against corruption, I will speak against price rise. I will mention about the massive poverty despite 60 years of Independence, but I will speak maximum against black money stashed in the foreign banks," Advani told media persons here.
Criticizing Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh over rampant corruption in the country and for the 2G Spectrum scam, Advani said: "When Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister for the first time (in 2004) and has been working under Sonia (Gandhi's) leadership, then situation was not so bad. When he came back to power for the second time (in 2009), he has just completed two years in the second term, everyday there is something (scam)."
"It has never happened in the last 60 years (since Independence) that a union minister has been removed and sent to jail due to corruption. Manmohan Singh didn't send them (to jail), but the Supreme Court has sent them on the basis of CAG report," he added.
Former Telecom Minister A. Raja was forced to resign from the Union Cabinet last year after the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) faulted him for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies who were largely ineligible for 2G spectrum, and added that the government had probably lost Rs.1.76 lakh crore in estimated revenue.
Advani has apparently chosen Sitab Diara, the birthplace of India's freedom fighter Jai Prakash Narayan, as the starting point of his yatra because of Jai Prakash's fight against corruption during his Total Revolution Movement in the mid-1970s.
The much-hyped journey is going to encompass 23 states, four Union Territories, which will include 100 districts and 7600 kilometres.
The yatra will see Advani boarding 14 special aircraft and six helicopters. He has to visit a total of 46 places across the country. The 38-day long yatra will conclude in Delhi on November 20 in form of a massive rally.
However, many political parties have claimed that Advani's procession was motivated by the upcoming general elections to be held in 2014.
Advani had organised a similar Yatra in 1992, to mobilise the people towards building a temple dedicated to Hindu deity in Ayodhya.
It was again in 2004, that he had taken out another chariot procession as he reiterated the demand to build a temple in Ayodhya. (ANI)
