'Red carded' Rooney says sorry to Capello

Podgorica , Sun, 09 Oct 2011 ANI

Podgorica (Montenegro), Oct.9 (ANI): England and Manchester United star striker Wayne Rooney has apologized to national team coach Fabio Capello for his red-card madness that saw him being suspended for two matches.

Though England has entered the Euro 2012 finals, it will miss the services of Rooney who was sent off in the 73rd minute for kicking Miodrag Dzudovic.

Rooney will probably miss the first two games in Poland and Ukraine.

The Sun quoted Capello, as saying: "He made a silly mistake and said 'Yes, sorry'. It's a red card. You can't defend that. I'm not happy, absolutely."

"Rooney kicked the opponent. And he will now not be able to play the first game in the Euros as he will be suspended. Rooney was not happy because he missed some control and some passes. For this reason, I think he reacted. His reaction was to kick the opponent," Capello added.

Rooney, 25, will land an automatic one-game ban - but UEFA are likely to increase this to two.

Capello said: "He's a really important player with a lot of experience. We will find a solution to play without him."

"It will be a good lesson for him and the team," he added.

England got the point they needed to qualify but had been cruising at 2-0 with goals from Ashley Young and Darren Bent.

And Montenegro made the play-offs thanks to their stoppage-time equaliser and Wales' win over Switzerland. (ANI)
