Imphal, Oct 7 (ANI): Veteran social activist Anna Hazare's proposed visit to Manipur has instilled a feeling of patriotism among residents here, who are eagerly waiting to meet the Gandhian and become a part of his anti-corruption crusade.
There has been an overwhelming public response to Hazare's proposed visit to Manipur.
Hazare is scheduled to visit Imphal to meet Irom Sharmila, who has been on hunger strike for more than 10 years in protest against misuse of arbitrary powers by security forces in the region.
Local said that they are eager to meet Hazare and be a part of his crusade against corruption and nepotism in public life as well as misrule by political vested interests.
"It is a good sign that Hazare is coming to Manipur in the context of the present situation of corruption," said Subash Chandra Singh.
"In my opinion, Anna is supporting Sharmila's cause. So, we all support him and we will always be with both Anna Hazare and Irom Chanu Sharmila," added Tombi Devi, a vegetable vendor.
Influenced by his campaign, students in Imphal have also expressed support to Hazare and said they are keen to join his cause.
"I support Anna's movement against corruption. If he comes to Manipur, he would influence the locals here to join his cause," said Bala Devi, a student.
Hazare, who spearheaded a nationwide storm against corruption a few months ago, had threatened to campaign against the Congress in five poll-bound states, if his version of the Lokpal Bill was not passed during the winter session of Parliament
He even questioned the ruling government's intention to ensure a corruption-free India, as it had failed to introduce an effective ant-graft bill to combat corruption so far.
The anti-graft legislation is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and in public life.
The proposed Bill envisages the setting up of a national anti-corruption watchdog to check financial mismanagement and corrupt practices that have deeply pervaded several democratic and civic institutions of India. (ANI)
