Subramanian Swamy slams Centre for defending Chidambaram over 2G issue

Chennai, Thu, 06 Oct 2011 ANI

Chennai, Oct 6 (ANI): Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy on Thursday slammed the Central Government for defending Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the 2G issue.

Addressing a news conference here, Swamy said: "Congress is defending Chidambaram because they are really afraid that since he was involved in every financial transaction, in assisting Ms. Sonia Gandhi and his family, her two sisters, her son and her daughter, all these people, the entire family benefited from Chidambaram's expertise as finance minister. So, they are trying to protect him now. So, that is why, they are doing all kinds of crazy things including file idiotic FIRs against me," said Swamy.

"All the ministers of the government are running a campaign to make out that Mr. Chidambaram is innocent and they give us lectures about subjudice and all that but they are ones who are not even following the principle when the matter is under the consideration of the court. It is the ministers who are speaking and therefore it is they who should be pulled up," he added.

He further said that the CBI should question Chidambaram about the several meetings that were held during the 2 G spectrum allocation in the year 2008.

He also added that it was important that the CBI probe Chidambaram as it was discovered that Swan and Unitech companies benefitted from the allocation.

Swamy had earlier last month submitted to the Supreme Court documents indicating that Chidambaram, as the then finance minister, was along with jailed former Telecom Minister A. Raja, involved in deciding the price of 2G spectrum. (ANI)
