London, Oct.4 (ANI): Winger Mark Cueto has defended his England teammates over lewd comments made to a hotel worker, saying that they "hadn't done anything hugely wrong" and that the incident "was a bit of banter that was taken out of hand".
Cueto's vigorous broadside against the view that players were unprofessional in their behaviour and had allowed themselves to be distracted by off-field events contrasted with those of England manager Martin Johnson, who said that he had been angered by the antics of the players at the start of the Rugby World Cup.
According to The Telegraph, Johnson took exception when the "lewd" suggestive antics of James Haskell, Dylan Hartley and Chris Ashton with a Dunedin hotel chambermaid on the eve of England's opening match against Argentina were made public in a Sunday newspaper.
In addition, Mike Tindall was revealed to have given a false account of his night out in Queenstown.
Cueto's view is that the squad will become more closely knit as a result of the furore and that France might feel the backlash when the sides meet in the World Cup quarter-final on Sunday. (ANI)
