New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): Accusing the Congress Party of trying to cover up corruption, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today justified veteran social activist Anna Hazare's agitation, and said the stand of the ruling party on the Jan Lokpal Bill is not clear, and that it should stop beating around the bush on the issue.
"Whether it is corruption or the Lokpal Bill, the stand of the Congress is not clear. People in the Congress try to cover up corruption. When there is a talk of formation of an effective Lokpal Bill to combat corruption, BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and party president Nitin Gadkari through a letter made it clear that they support Anna Hazare's Lokpal Bill and even told the issue on the floor of the Parliament," said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
"But the Congress is not making its stand clear on the Lokpal Bill. So, Anna Hazare's displeasure is correct. Congress should make its stand clear whether it is in favour of the key points of the Lokpal Bill. The way Congress Party is beating around the bush over the issue, Anna Hazareji's displeasure is absolutely correct. The BJP believes that the Congress Party tries to cover up corruption and its stand is unclear on the Lokpal Bill," he added.
Responding to a question that Hazare is all set to sit on a fast again and urge the people of the country not to vote in favour of the Congress, Hussain said: "The BJP does not play any politics over corruption. We are against corruption because it is in favour of the country. We do not want to politicise the issue. Whenever Anna Hazare speaks against corruption and on the Jan Lokpal Bill, Congress says the statement is politically motivated. The main problem with the Congress Party is that whoever speaks against them, they consider it to be a political vendetta.
When asked over Law Minister Salman Khurshid's statement that the Congress Party is not worried over somebody sitting on an agitation against them, Hussain said: "Congress nowadays does not even fear the people of the country. The Congress thinks that once it has come to power, it is permanent. When the elections will be held, it will be all crystal clear on what is the position of the Congress at present. Moreover, the loss of the Congress in Hisar is for sure. The results of the Hisar polls will be a wake up alarm for the Congress Party."
Refusing to comment on Hazare's views, Khurshid said he will not comment on anybody's view about what would happen in the next election.
"I will not comment on anybody's views about what is going to happen in the next elections. Every citizen is free to vote. We will only perform our duties," he added.
Hazare earlier in the day announced that he would begin a three-day fast in Lucknow just before the Uttar Pradesh polls if Jan Lokpal Bill is not brought during Parliament's Winter Session.
He said he would tour all five election-bound states and ask voters not to vote for Congress if bill is not passed by then.
The 74-year-old social activist had staged an indefinite hunger strike against graft that he gave up on the 13th day on August 28 when the government agreed to deliberate the issues raised by him and his forum vis-?-vis the passage and enactment of the Lokpal Bill, a suggestion that has received unprecedented nationwide backing.
