Srinagar, Oct 3 (ANI): Senior National Conference (NC) leader Abdul Rahim Rather has slammed the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) for politicizing the alleged custodial death of a senior NC worker Syed Muhammad Yusuf.
"It is unfortunate that from day one opposition is trying to politicize the issue," Rather told reporters in Srinagar.
He reiterated that the government had nothing to hide and had in fact called for a judicial inquiry.
"We want that the people should know the truth about the matter. You (media) would have known about our intention when the government, without wasting anytime, expressed a desire to set an inquiry commission. Not only did it express desire to set up an inquiry commission but wrote a letter to chief justice of the state that he should delegate services of a sitting judge to the government," said Rather.
"I want to assure that whosoever is found guilty in this, action would be taken against him according to the law, irrespective of his stature," he added.
Yusuf died allegedly in police custody after two fellow party workers had accused him of taking Rs 1.18 crore from them for getting them berths in the Legislative Council.
According to the government version, the accused was summoned to the camp office of the Chief Minister where he was confronted with the allegation about taking money.
Yusuf had admitted to taking money after which he was handed over to IGP Crime Branch for further investigations. (ANI)
