Washington, Oct 1 (ANI): The victims of Mob boss John Gotti's crimes are upset with the constant meeting between John Travolta and the late criminal's family to research for his movie.
The 57-year-old actor has already met up with Gotti's family thrice in the past 10 months to research for 'Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father', a movie based on John Gotti Jr's memoir of growing up in the Mob.
"He (Travolta) wants to go out playing a guy who made my life and other people's lives miserable for decades," Fox News quoted radio host Curtis Sliwa, a victim, as saying.
"Looking at some of these photos, you have to say to John Travolta, 'My God I understand why you take the part, but now you love the publicity of being with them, and that makes you a wannabe gangster, and a wannabe thug'," he stated.
According to People magazine, Scott Favara, the son of John Favara, who is believed to have been murdered after he accidentally killed John Gotti's son Frankie in a car accident in 1980, also said that the film is rubbing him the wrong way.
"It's like putting salt in an open wound," Favara said.
Travolta has been spotted with Gotti Jr. in conversation and hugging outside the restaurant and in April at a press conference for the film in New York following a five-hour lunch together.
The victims also feel that with the growing intimacy between the actor and the criminal family, Travolta may form a sense of empathy towards them, which will obviously exhibit itself on-screen.
"Travolta is going to essentially hang out with the Gotti family, form a bond-if not a friendship-and that sense of empathy will come through on-screen," Douglas Century, author of 'Takedown: Fall of the Last Mafia Empire' said.
Travolta's wife Kelly Preston will be portraying Gotti's wife and his daughter will be playing one of the Gotti daughters, Angel in the movie. (ANI)
