Britain's favourite drink, tea, falling out of fashion with below 25's

London, Oct 1 (ANI): A new research has found that Britain's favourite drink - tea, is falling out of fashion with youngsters, who drink just one variety of tea and opt for soft drinks, bottled water or fruit juice instead.

The research conducted by Typhoo has also revealed that more than half of British tea drinkers are over 45, while just four percent are under the age of 25.

Many others are also disregarding the drink, and figures reveal that the country wastes more than one million tonnes or 3,5 billion cups of brewed tea per year, which does not include milk or sugar, suggesting that pots of tea are disposed off without being touched.

Around four decades ago traditional English Breakfast tea, which accounted for half of the daily fluid intake of Britons, has fallen to just 40 percent, with consumers opting for healthier, trendier varieties, like green, jasmine and mint teas.

The cause of the decline is being revealed to be time constraints in the workplace as employers are slashing breaks spent making and drinking tea to increase employer productivity, and some offices have even installed a boiling water tap instead of using a kettle.

"Typhoo is working hard to bridge the gap between the older and younger generation of traditional tea drinkers," the Daily Mail quoted Kate Willoughby from Typhoo as saying.

"We recently appointed Ben Fogle as the face of our new TV advertising campaign to appeal to younger consumers encouraging them to continue Britain's tea drinking legacy," Willoughby added. (ANI)
