New Delhi, Sep 30 (ANI): India and Pakistan have agreed to open bank branches of the respective countries and new land routes to boost bilateral trade.
Pakistani Commerce and Trade Minister Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Fahim met his Indian counterpart Anand Sharma to discuss the modalities to remove non-tariff barriers.
"Both countries are now poised to open bank branches and land routes. Bilateral trade between India and Pakistan is expected to flourish and hopefully all non-tariff barriers shall soon be removed," said Fahim.
Fahim also said the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) would negotiate with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to create a bigger block with Turkey and Central Asia.
Anand Sharma said second gate at the India-Pakistan border would be ready soon to facilitate trade through the land route.
"We have committed ourselves to strengthen the infrastructure on the border, a coordination between the customs is already taking place. The second gate at Wagah-Attari border will be ready soon. We have agreed that we will encourage that all tradable goods can go through the land route which will be bringing down the transaction cost and helpful for trade," added Sharma. (ANI)
