Bihar flood situation improving, vital aid being given to affected people: Nitish

Patna, Sep 29 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed all concerned departmental officials to extend all possible help to people affected by floods.

 

Talking to reporters after conducting an aerial survey of inundated areas, Kumar said the situation is improving as the water is receding.

 

"We have conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas. There has been heavy rain and especially in the regions of rivers belonging to the Adhwara segment (rivers originates from foot hills of Nepal) and wherever there is presence of the rivers of Adhwara Group, the water is present there. But after low flying it has appeared that the water is receding as well and the situation is under control," he added.

 

He further said that Rivers Ganges, Sone, Kamalabalan, Punpun and also the Adhwara segment of rivers caused the floods.

 

Emphasising that financial help has been extended to the families affected by the floods, Kumar said: "The relief work is in progress. Wherever the people have been stranded in the middle of inundated areas, they have been rescued, relief camps have been set up, and sheds for the livestock have also been put up in some areas. So all these measures have been taken up in all the places where there is a need."

 

He further mentioned an evaluation into the extent of damage caused by the floods has been ordered.

 

"We have also issued another instruction that the extent of damage should be evaluated. On the face, it appears that a lot of houses have been damaged, so we have asked the authorities to make a list of all of them. And wherever there has been a damage to the crops, we are trying to evaluate the scenario and we have ordered for the preparation of a list containing the names of those affected (by the floods), we will provide all possible aid to the people," he said.

 

He also said that various district authorities have been directed to intensify relief and rescue operations and the medical care authorities have been ordered to prevent the outbreak of epidemics after the water recedes from the flood-hit regions. (ANI)
