Lima, Sept 28 (ANI): A 23-year-old football fan died after being pushed over the side of a stand in a violence fuelled derby match in Peru.
Walter Oyarce fell to his death over the edge during Saturday's game between Universitario and visiting Alianza Lima at Estadio Monumental, one of the world's most dangerous stadiums.
Fans had clashed early on with riot police in the stands before the opening kick off. But the violence turned deadly when the home side took a 2-1 lead late in the second half of the match.
According to the Daily Mail, assailants with suspected ties to Universitario's 'La Trinchera Norte' ultras group jumped over Oyarce and other Alianza fans in their private box.
They started beating Oyarce and other Alianza fans using fists, belts and anything else they could get their hands on to pummel their victims, until Oyarce was pushed over the railing and fell more than 30ft onto the concrete pavement.
He was found lying in a pool of blood and clinging to life, but died on the way to a local hospital.
David Sanchez Manrique, fingered as the man who pushed Oyarce to his death, fled the country on the night of the murder on a Lima to Miami flight, the report said.
Six suspects have been identified by witnesses and video surveillance from the scene.
One of them, Gian Carlo Diaz, turned himself into police and was released after questioning. (ANI)
